Superman has been feeling out of sorts lately. Weird things happen to him. He knows it's not just puberty because the health class he took said nothing about hovering, or seeing through walls. It was mainly about hair in new places, and growth he wasn't expecting at odd times. Plus, he can't seem to shake this general feeling of malaise. Sometimes he feels fine, but when he's home he feels kinda sweaty, and he can't concentrate.
His father has noticed his second-oldest son is not the same happy boy he used to be and in great rich-man form he decides his son needs a horse. The whole family piles into the large SUV and heads off to a breeder to pick the horse of Superman's dreams. Superman is feeling sick that day, and it's only me (the movie viewer) that notices the new good luck charm the youngest brother has picked up and is playing with. It's a beautiful, shiny, bright green rock.
Upon arrival, Superman's sister pulls him aside and points out that he is sweating, and has not bothered to put on shoes, instead opting to wear bell peppers on his bare feet. She wasn't going to say anything but the mice nibbling on his "shoes" may bite his toes. That worries her. She also mentions he should perhaps seek medical help for his obvious addiction to drugs.
Feeling worse than ever, Superman wanders off to the far end of the ranch. He starts to feel better, but starts to cry as he does not know what is wrong with him and does not want to bring shame to his family for being such a complete freak. He's come upon a horse and is rubbing it's nose absentmindedly when he notices the horse has become invisible. This shocks him so much, he pulls his hand away and the horse comes into view. He starts shaking uncontrollably, and makes the decision to run away from home. He grabs a blanket, throws it over the horses back, jumps on and the two head off into the surrounding woods.
